Pour n'en nommer que quelques unes : St Bartholomew the Great, Sky Garden, Royal Exchange,The Shard. Comme c'est écrit plus haut "It's the people that make it".

My last full day. Tomorrow I'm going home.  I am in the middle: happy to return to my peoples and sad to leave England.  That is my life!

Today I went for a cruise on the River Mersey. I was lucky because the weather was mostly cloudy, but no rain in sight. It was touching to hear “Ferry crossing the Mersey”, as we sailed down the river. It's a 50 minute tour. On this tour we took in beautiful views of Liverpool and Wirral. I also learned that The Beatles performed on The Royal Iris four times during the Cavern Club's famous Riverboat Shuffle cruises in 1961 and 1962.

After the cruise, I went to lunch at the Fab Four Café. My cappuccino was special. It may not be the best I've tasted, but it was certainly the most beautiful to look at.

After lunch I went to see an exhibition at the Open eye gallery. This was an exhibition of photos by photographer Casey Or. The project explores young people's fashion, identity and self-expression on Saturday afternoons on the high streets and public spaces of towns and cities across the UK.

Fascinating!

Leaving the area, I met those 4 lads.

It was time to go to the Cavern. This time I went down four floors to enjoy the singer who was performing. It's always an emotional moment for me. I missed Ginette, my Beatles fan friend with me forever. We will have to come back together.

If you want to feel the ambiance : at the cavern

I told you yesterday that my suitcase was broken. I have to come back so I went and bought another one. I didn't want to break the bank because I have so many suitcases at home. I bought a slightly smaller suitcase. Everything fits perfectly.

This evening I went to a bistro for dinner: Hanover Street Social. That was delicious. It was a cool atmosphere: loud but young.

My boarding pass is issued. I was upgraded again. I'm feeling lucky.

See you back at home !

Jour 18, 15 mai 2024

Day of departure. It's not one of my favorites. Nicole quite the first at 4h40 in the night and we leaved at 9h30.

But if it’s to go to Liverpool, that’s a comfort. My only fear was carrying my luggage. It's big and heavy. And, as I get older, it seems even bigger and heavier. And to make matters worse, the telescopic handle broke as soon as I arrived at Victoria Station. Well that confirmed my decision to take a taxi from Liverpool station to my hotel.

As soon as I got my room, I went for lunch. I felt so free without my baggage. Phew! I walked to the center and passed the Bluecoat Gallery. This reminded me that I had already gone there for lunch with Gabriel, in 2014. So I went back.

After lunch, I visited the Gallery. I saw Michelle Williams Gamaker’s exhibition: Our Mountains are Painted on Glass.

Michelle Williams Gamaker is a British-Sri Lankan artist who explores race, identity, her love of cinema and the power of storytelling. The exhibition was therefore a mixture of techniques.

My goal today was to find the Brian Epstein statue. I found it and made my way down Matthew Street. The surrounding streets were very lively. I didn't go down to the Cavern, to save it for tomorrow. I took a walk to explore my neighborhood.

I even saw a replica of John Lennon's Roll Royce

I came back to my hotel to relax and take a shower before going out to dinner.

In the hotel lobby they offered an aperitif, wine or beer at our convenience. Very nice touch.

For dinner I went to Villa Romana. It was a very moving memory. I was there 24 years ago with Marcel, on our first trip to Liverpool. It was a moment where I would have loved him to be there with me.

After dinner, I couldn't go straight back to my hotel. I needed to walk because my stomach was pretty full. At night, the area is bustling with nightlife and bars. The kind of place Chantal would have run to.

I got home early, a little before nine, with 13,010 steps on the clock. Not so bad since I was in transport most of the day.

jour 17, 14 mai 2024

Our last day… Time flies! We broke up again today. I stayed home and my friends went to the Winston Churchill Museum. In the morning, they first went to see Buckingham Palace. On their way to the War Room, they stopped at Westminster Cathedral.

We met at 3 p.m. at the Audrey Green Café at the National Portrait Gallery. Unfortunately, Carole and Dominique had to rush to meet me, because they would have stayed longer at the museum.

Nicole strolled through St-James Park before returning home to cook the last supper. She loves cooking, so it wasn't a chore to do that on our last night.

For a change we didn't have the afternoon tea but opted for the cream tea. The difference is that for afternoon tea there are sandwiches, cakes and scones with the tea. For cream tea we have clotted cream scones, jam and tea. This is more of an afternoon snack. As the museum has been renovated, the restaurant has also been renovated and there is now an exhibition in the café.

After our tea we went to visit the portrait gallery museum. I was there 2 days ago, but this time I saw other rooms.

We came back for the last aperitif. We are all ready for our departure tomorrow. Nicole did not have an aperitif with us, because she preferred to cook. She will be the first to leave at 4:40 in the evening. We will leave our little pink house at 9:30 a.m.

It was our last supper together.  Look at this appetizing table !

I am a little bit a shame of my steps today: 9626 steps.  In my defense, I have to admit that I have several blisters on my feet.

jour 16, 13 mai 2024

A day a little lazier than the rest of the vacation.

Today we separated. Nicole went to Greenwich. She enjoyed the visit, even though she got lost and had to walk a lot. Here are his favorite moments:

Dominique went to visit the British Museum. She had to wait about 45 minutes to get in, but she said the wait was worth it. Dominique was amused by a group of boys visiting the museum with their class.

Carole and I went to Granary Square and Camley Country Park. It was my second time there, but Carole's first time. It's so strange to find yourself in this wild natural space, just behind London's busiest train station. We feel like we are miles from the city.

After our stop in the park, we went to the British Library, where we saw an exhibition of African photography. We took advantage of being at the museum for lunch.

We returned mid-afternoon to discuss a walk in Battersea Park, when we stopped at the Peace Pagoda.

For dinner we went to Jam. We had a good laugh. Our server was so funny.

A beautiful day of 22193 steps

Jour 15, 12 mai 2024

This morning, Nicole already had a plan for her day. She wanted to visit the Desigh Museum. She visited the Leighton house and said it was her must-see for the day.

Us 3 others went to Regent Park. It's always so pleasant to walk in a park, especially on a sunny day. We then did the usual route: Paul McCartney's house and Abbey Road. Dominique feels a little funny about being photographed while crossing the road.

For lunch we went to Clifton Nursery. It's a cafe hidden in a garden center. It's a cool atmosphere and the menu was very interesting.

After lunch we went to see the boats on the canal before taking the tube to Trafalgal Square. From there we parted ways.

Carole and Dominique went to the National Gallery and I visited the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery. I didn't find my usual haunts there, so I had to look for the rooms I wanted to visit. I saw many portraits of royalty and a few others that I found very interesting even though they were little known people.

After our visit in the museum, we went at The Crypt before coming back home.

This evening we went to eat the Sunday roast in Prince Albert's garden.

Every time I cross the Albert Bridge, I think of Phi.

On our way back, we crossed 2 gentlemen very classy.

That is it for today, after 23516 steps.  Time to go to sleep.
