Day 9

Phi and Horia quit this morning for Edinburg.  We will miss them.  It was so nice to share our flat with them.   Today, we discovered a neighborhood that we had not yet explored : Shoreditch, that is in the heart of London East End.  This cobbled streets area was once one of the poorest part of London.
It is now a famous area for young artists.

The first thing we saw as we arrived is the new Eataly.   I knew Eataly in New York, but it was new for me in London.

We then searched for the street art.  We didn't knew which way to go but it wasn't a long search before we arrived in the middle of Brick Lane, known as the home of excellent vintage stores and funky graffitis.  Everywhere we look, there was art.

We saw a very particular artist that was making art with brocoli.  We chatted with him a little bit.  He explained to us, he choose to use brocoli because it is a vegetable good for the health at many levels.  Knowing more about the artist: https://www.facebook.com/boswelladrian/

We went for lunch at a Pret à manger, but we regretted it because we found afterward so many food trucks with pretty smelling indian cuisine.  Oh well!  It will be for another time.

Carole was very curious about this particular building the Londoners call The Gherkin.  As we could saw it from Brick Lane, we just go straight foward (well not that straight 😋) to it.

When we arrive at the ground level of the building, we found it so impressive.  What a major piece of architecture!  It was impossible to take a picture from that point of view.

We follow our way to Leadenhall Market where we had coffee break in a french cafe.

We came back in mid-afternoon to write our postal cards and do laundry.  Tonight we didnt go out for supper.   And dont worry, we had a very good home made meal: pasta tomato-pesto "au gratin", with spinach and tomato salad.  In fact, it was the left over in our fridge.

Good night friends!
20097 steps!

Encore des belles photos. J'aime l'art de rue et je suis surprise d'en voir autant à Londres. C'est un peuple innovateur.
Le cornichon architectural me fait penser à The Glories à Barcelone.
